News Archive 14 : Teaching Assistant's Course Mark Freeman February 2008
Teaching assistants attending the final day of a six day course preparing them for assessment as 'Higher Level Teaching Assistants.' In order to gain the status, teaching assistants have to undergo a rigorous assessment process against thirty three national standards. The teaching assistants in this cohort came from across Devon - from Modbury and Yealmpton in the South to Hartland in the North. South Tawton Primary took advantage of the locally based course and no less than five teaching assisants from the school attended and will receive half day assessment visits from external assessors during the summer term.
The venue, with catering provided by the Seven Stars, was very highly regarded: 'Lovely - a day to look forward to each month (Sally Jupp: Hayward's Primary, Crediton) and 'Excellent catering and lovely venue - ideal for the number of people attending' (Ann Broome: Queen Elizabeth's Community College, Crediton) were typical.
